Summit Highlights
The B’MORE (Baltimore) Youth Summit on Opioid Awareness:
On Tuesday, November 26, 2019, nearly 2,500 Baltimore area youth gathered at the UMBC Event Center for the B’MORE (Baltimore) Youth Summit on Opioid Awareness.
The summit featured emotional presentations by local family members as well as youth in recovery speakers about the realities associated with drug use and abuse. Additionally, uplifting spoken word, dance and musical performances by DJ Loco, Baltimore City College Marching Knights Band, the DEA Dance Team and Devon Fleming & Tinnea electrified the audience. Lead Community Partner Walmart provided snacks and water to both attendees and volunteers during the day.
The 3 hour program was designed to educate, inspire and engage area youth to be part of the solution to the opioid epidemic. The Summit was hosted by WBAL TV Co-Anchors Mindy Basara and Jason Newton and, Lil Black of 92Q Jams Baltimore (WERQ-FM 92.3 FM). The cornerstone of the summit was the movie, “If Only.” Additional highlights included educational and compelling presentations from Jim Wahlberg, Dr. Letitia Dzirasa, Commissioner of the Baltimore City Health Department, State’s Attorney for Baltimore City Marilyn Mosby, professional skateboarder and MTV personality Brandon Novak, Lil Black 92Q personality and parent survivor and First Lady Melania Trump, among many other local advocates, government officials and celebrities.
